Our Mission

Welcome to our blog! Thanks for stopping by.

We are two sisters that are hungry for more in our spiritual walks...
more of His wisdom so we can walk daily in love and obedience
more awareness of His love and how to pour it onto others
more of a realization of who God is personally to us and others--not some "distant being"
more knowledge so we can always give people an answer for the hope we possess

Basically, we want a more intimate relationship with the One who loved us so much to die for our sins, conquer death, and fill us with hope, healing, and life. How do we do this? Church? Prayer? Worship? These things are all wonderful and beautiful and needed. But how do we learn what our role is in church? How do we learn to pray and worship? Through His Word. It is "alive and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit," we learn in Hebrews 4:12. It is our nourishment, more important than food. It is what leads us into prayer and meditation, and our image of God transforms from preconceived notions into the true reality of who He is and what He wants from us- And as Christians, what He requires of us.

So we are going to dive into a one-year commitment of daily Bible reading, and we are going to use this blog to document our journey. We decided to do this together and blog our way through it for a couple different reasons: Firstly, accountability. We both chose to believe in Jesus and surrender our lives to Him at young ages. However, we have made many mistakes over the years and we are so far from perfect that it's laughable. Which brings us to the second reason: Transparency. Reading through the Bible isn't something we just want to check off our good Christian to-do list and it isn't something that is going to turn us into expert theologians. Our walk with God is very real, just as with any relationship... full of joy and heartbreak, laughter and tears.

Please do not contact us to debate about anything that we may share on here. Please do not leave any negative comments or criticisms. We are making our thoughts on what we read as reflect on each daily reading public here with the hope that through our transparency, someone will see that being a Christian doesn't mean trying to be perfect or trying to follow a list of rules and behaviors to be accepted by God or other believers. It is about being real with Him and embracing His love, mercy, and grace in exchange for your sins, shortcomings, and failures. It is our hope that we can return to this blog a year from now and see the faithfulness of God through our entries. He promises in His Word that those who seek Him wholeheartedly WILL FIND Him. He's not trying to toy with us, He's just letting us know that He's an all-or-nothing God. And He is worthy of it all, so we are going to fervently pursue Him.

We are going to commit to posting at least once a week, but there may be times where we post several times each week. The posts will vary... thoughts, frustrations, insights and revelations, words of encouragement... whatever is on our mind and heart as we read and apply His Word to our lives. We are using The NCV Daily Bible by Thomas Nelson Publishers (2005). It is the Bible broken into 365 readings; In one day there are portions of Old Testament, Psalms, Proverbs, and New Testament readings.

Before we jump in, here's a little bit about us:

Hannah
I turned 18 years old in October and am a senior in high school. I'm the youngest of six! This Fall I'll be  beginning my journey in ministry through an accreditation/preparation program. My dream is pretty broad: I want to do and accomplish whatever God has for me. Which, at the moment, means I have (quite literally) an open book ahead of me and very few specific plans. But, in the words of a new Casting Crowns song that I adore, "When I'm lost in the mystery--to You my future is a memory--cause you're allllllready therrrre!" I'm so excited to spend my life with my Love.
Loves:
My family
My church
My pastors and mentors--you guys are the BEST OF DA BEST
My awesome friends
Painting and art
Writing (creative, journals, all of it!)
Coffee, and unfortunately for my wallet Starbucks is my favorite
Bargain shopping
Laughing, people who can make me laugh, and making others laugh
Naps
Not matching my clothes
Photography! I'm not much of a photographer, but I admire other people's work
Parties/gatherings/get-togethers/lots of people and food
And I'm also a big believer in Pinterest. It's wonderful. ;)

Desiree
I just turned 29 years old and graduated with my degree in Elementary Education last month. I am in an exciting transitional time in my life as we are preparing to move to Birmingham, I am trying to find a teaching job, and we are in the process of adopting from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Africa. Most importantly, I am a servant/child/follower of God through Jesus Christ.
Loves (the short list):
My husband of almost ten years
My daughter, who is five
My large, incredible family
My truly amazing friends
The leadership and people of Church of the Shoals
Reading (Faves: The Bible, Kisses from Katie by Katie Davis, Crazy Love by Francis Chan, The Hole in our Gospel by Richard Stearns, Radical by David Platt, Beautiful Outlaw by John Eldredge)
Journaling
My two shih tzus, Brolly and Gracie... and almost every other animal created
White mochas
Super ice cold Pepsi
Exercising (which perhaps I won't need as much of if I give up the two aforementioned items..)
And...
This is not as light-hearted, but I can't left it unsaid: I SO LOVE orphans (all 147-163 MILLION of them from across this world) and the thousands of children that are aborted daily. My heart is burdened so greatly with the horrid realities of abortion and neglected/abandoned/abused orphans.

All that being said, stay tuned for more from us.

God Bless!
